Coventry University Students’ Union (CUSU) is a charity that exists to make your experience as a student the best it can be. It is led by students, designed for students.
All students across the Coventry University Group are automatically members and any student can get involved with running the SU.

# A warm welcome and a sense of belonging
Some of the things we do to help you feel included, valued, listened to and represented whilst you study are:
- Connecting you with other like-minded students through more than 200 clubs and societies
- Providing hundreds of volunteering opportunities
- Supporting liberation communities
- Organising events and campaigns throughout the year
- Giving free, confidential advice on housing, money and your course through the Students’ Union Advice Centre (SUAC)
- Delivering student-led representation throughout your studies via our Reps

Sports clubs and societies offer you the opportunity to continue your hobbies, learn new skills and meet people like you. We have more than 200 groups, but if you don’t see the thing you’re passionate about you can start your own student group.

# Wellbeing and Advice
Making sure that everyone feels they belong and has the tools to cope with the stresses of University life is a crucial part of CUSU’s activity.
We run campaigns and events on housing and accommodation quality, safety on campus and in the City, exam stress, mental health awareness, and green living - to name just a few!

# Equality and Diversity
CUSU proudly celebrates the diversity of its members and we work to make sure that all students have the ability to thrive - giving those who have traditionally been unheard a voice in a safe environment.
We run campaigns, events and activities to promote inclusivity and address issues affecting students across the Group. Our liberation communities also provide support and representation for students who identify as Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic, Disabled, LGBTQ+, Self-Supporting, Students of Faith, Students with Responsibilities, and Women Students.

# Students’ Union Advice Centre (SUAC)
SUAC is a professional advice and information centre that provides free, confidential and independent advice to students and prospective students on housing, money and your course.
We offer representation and support at hearings and tribunals including Examination Investigation Panels, Professional Suitability Hearings and Disciplinaries, and act as a referral service to other services when appropriate.
CUSU and the Advice Centre are independent of the University and all advice is impartial and in confidence.
Volunteering provides a chance to give back to the community and develop valuable skills. You can volunteer on a one-off or short-term basis, or commit to regular long-term volunteering with one of our community partners.

CUSU Employability ensures that you get recognition on your CV for all of the extra-curricular activities that you do at University and elsewhere. This can include: sports and societies, volunteering, work as a student rep and taking part in campaigns.
Through documenting your achievements, you can receive your Leadership Award, which is formal recognition of the skills and experience that you have acquired. Find out more about how to apply for the Leadership Award (opens new window).
CUSU Employability can also help you find placements to contribute to your studies and Add+vantage modules. This includes a wide range of experiences, from volunteering in schools to sign language courses. Contact the Employability team at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
# Become a student leader
CUSU is led by students. There are various roles for Student Leaders, including:
- Sabbatical officers (elected to work full-time for a year)
- Officers and Faculty Reps (who work alongside their studies to help improve the student experience)
- Student Councillors
Each year, you have the chance to vote for who you want to represent you, or you can even run for election yourself.
Sabbatical Officers and Faculty Chairs make up the Executive Committee (a body that is given authority from Student Council to manage the day-to-day affairs of CUSU, represent the wider student body, and ensure that policies are adhered to). It is the Student Council’s job to make sure that the Executive Committee are functioning correctly, whilst representing specific student interests.

# Have your say
Student Reps are here to give all students a voice. They will listen to your feedback and pass it on to academic staff in your school and Faculty. We want to make sure that your voice is heard in order to help make positive changes to your learning experience. All students can become a Rep - it’s a great way for you to develop your skills.
