# Update your Student ID card

You will need to reactivate your student ID card once every week on a Phoenix activation point / Salto reader to make sure that your access to buildings and attendance is kept up to date. It’s important to do this so you can get into buildings and register your attendance at classes correctly using the Touchpoint machines.

Tip:

Sometimes ID cards are also called Phoenix cards

# Find a Salto reader or Phoenix registration point

Mile Lane has three Salto readers that you can use to update your card. One as you enter the main entrance and two by the lifts going up to both the North and South sides of the building.

Tip:

A Salto reader will be a black box (there are three of these at Mile Lane). Other Phoenix registration points around campus will be silver. Please use the list below to find your nearest activation point.

# Hold your card against the reader

Hold your card flat against the card reader - you can use both sides of the card to do this.

# Wait for 3 seconds until it beeps

Wait until the light flashes green and you hear a beep (this usually takes about 3 seconds).

# Go to the Customer Experience team if your card doesn’t update

If you have tried to update your card and you are still having problems getting into buildings, or scanning your attendance on the Touchpoint machines, go to Customer Experience team and we can help.

Tip:

If you have been away from campus for a longer period of time (on study break), your card access might expire and, in this situation, the activation point will not update your card. If this happens, we can update your card manually at the Customer Experience team – it will only take a few minutes to fix.
