# Get your first Student ID card
# Apply for Student ID card online
If you would prefer not to come to campus and have your card delivered, you can apply online and have your Student ID card posted to you.
# 1. Complete online enrolment
You need to complete your online enrolment (opens new window) before you can apply for a Student ID card. If you've got your new University email and password, then you've already done it.
If you enrolled in a previous semester but are in the UK for the first time, please email firstname.lastname@example.org so we can send you an invitation to apply for a card.
# 2. Check you have a UK address registered
When you enrolled, you submitted one or more address where we could contact you. The Term Time or Correspondence address needs to be one in the UK so you can choose where you would like your Student ID card to be posted. You can check you have a UK term-time address listed or add one on SOLAR.
Any changes you make on SOLAR will take some time to update. Please wait at least 2 hours before starting your application.
# 3. Have a passport style photo ready
Have a passport style photo ready to upload or be able to take a passport style photo with your phone.
# 4. Have a photo identification document ready
Have a photo identification document such as your passport or driver’s license ready so you can upload a good quality copy using your phone camera.
# 5. Start your Student ID card application
Start your Student ID card application (opens new window) by logging in with your University email and password. Remember you must have enrolled and activated your student IT account first.
# Receiving your Student ID card
Our team will let you know by email as soon as your application has been verified and you will receive your Student ID card at the UK address you choose within about a week. Don’t worry if your Student ID card arrives after you do, you will still be able to get to your timetabled sessions.
Even if you have chosen to study remotely for now, you should still apply. Any Student Loans Company (SLC) funds will be released when your Student ID card is issued.
# What to do if you can't log in
If you are not eligible to order an ID card, you will get a blank screen when you try to log in. Use the list below to check that you are eligible and find out what might be going wrong. You will not be able to log in if:
- you don't have a UK address on SOLAR.
- you are in the UK as an overseas student, but the International Student Compliance (ISC) team don't know you are here, or have not updated the system to show that you have arrived.
- you are a September starter who studied remotely in Semester / Block 1 but travelled to the UK for Semester / Block 2. (You will need to contact the Student Engagement Team to be manually added to the system before you can log in and order a card online).
- you are a returning student.
- you have only just enrolled. (If you meet the other criteria, you will need to wait until the next working day before you can log in and order a card online).
# Get your student ID card on campus
From 1st September, if you are not able to upload your photo, then your photo can be taken and your ID card produced on campus. You do not need to book an appointment, you can just turn up once you have successfully completed your enrolment. Check our opening times for ID card collection on campus.
